Hi,
Many of this week's headlines have been unsettling. Ugly protests in the streets of Sydney. Dire fire conditions in Victoria.
But then along comes the incredible story of thirteen-year-old Austin Appelbee, who swam four kilometres through rough water to save his family. It was rightly described as an extraordinary act of courage. So inspiring!
Yet one detail was downplayed, or even completely edited out, in much of the media coverage. As Austin faced that overwhelming task, he prayed. He said:
"I don't think it was actually me, swimming, it was God the whole time. I kept on praying. I kept on praying. And I said to God, I'll get baptised and all that."
Thinking about his friends at Christian youth, Austin knew exactly who to call on in his time of need. We can learn a lot from this tenacious young man.
Earlier this week, as Vision's leadership team met to pray, we reflected on Proverbs 2, a chapter centred on wisdom. One particular line stood out: "Listen to wisdom, and do your best to understand" (Proverbs 2:2, ERV).
That verse is especially timely. We're surrounded by fast-moving headlines and problems that demand our reaction rather than reflection. It can feel like we're lost at sea and the sharks are circling. But scripture invites us to patient understanding and prayer – and not in isolation, either, but together.
Helping people have that revelation is at the heart of Vision's role. We use media to connect with Australians everywhere and help them move beyond information to understanding – and ultimately to encounter God's wisdom for themselves.
This comment received just days ago from Lindley from Willetton, WA says it nicely:
"I am truly enjoying the Soul Food [Vision's Bible reading plan]. It is filling in a lot of gaps in my knowledge and understanding around biblical events."
Thank you for standing with Vision. Your prayers and support enable us to continue pointing people to hope, truth, and wisdom that doesn't change, even when the world around us does.
Together, let's keep listening for wisdom, growing in understanding, and sharing the hope we've found in Jesus. |
