Hi,
Over the past week, I’ve found myself stopping often as the news from Nepal has unfolded. I have been to Nepal. We have ministry friends who live there. Thankfully our friends are safe, but my heart goes out to the families whose lives have changed in an instant, people facing loss, fear and uncertainty in ways most of us can barely imagine. In moments like this.
Moments like this are a reminder of just how quickly life can change, and how much we all need the comfort, steadiness and hope that only God can bring.
Whenever tragedy strikes, whether through natural disasters, accidents, conflict or personal loss, it often leaves us asking difficult questions.
Why does suffering happen?
Where is God when people are hurting?
And what can we do when we feel powerless to change the situation?
These moments remind us that life can change very quickly.
One ordinary day can suddenly become a day that people will remember forever.
Yet in the middle of heartbreak, one of the things I have always found remarkable is how often God works through ordinary people.
We see neighbours helping neighbours. Strangers giving generously. Rescue workers serving tirelessly. Communities coming together to lift burdens that would be impossible to carry alone.
It's a reflection of something God has placed within us: the desire to care for one another.
The Bible tells us to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
We may live thousands of kilometers away from those affected in Nepal, but we can still respond with compassion. We can pray. We can care. We can remember those who are hurting. And we can ask God to bring comfort, hope and practical help to those whose lives have been turned upside down.
