Hi,
This week the world witnessed an unusual display of courage.
Less than two weeks after having her heart shattered from her husband’s assassination, Erika Kirk did something incredible. Standing before a crowd of 70,000 people and millions more online, she said of the accused murderer: “I forgive him… because it is what Christ did”.
Wow. Many would expect anger and retribution, but instead we witnessed a profoundly countercultural and courageous response, boldly anchored in Christian faith and forgiveness. And the world clearly has noticed.
Courage and boldness get attention, especially when coupled with confident grace. These are qualities we see elevated all through the scriptures, such as with the Apostle Paul:
“Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel... Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Ephesians 6:19-20 (NIV)
Paul knew his mission would be difficult, yet he willingly pressed on by faith. Joshua was the same, although it seems he needed a little extra encouragement with God giving him repeated commands to be strong and courageous, each with a distinct emphasis:
Joshua 1:6 – Courage to lead the people and fulfill God’s promises.
Joshua 1:7 – Courage to obey the Law faithfully and without compromise.
Joshua 1:9 – Courage rooted in the assurance of God’s presence
Our prayer for you is that God will give you courage to face whatever comes your way this week, and the boldness to take up opportunities to openly share the gospel with others.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
