Being Obedient to that Still Small Voice

The Vine and the Branches

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. John 15:1-4 NIV

Tony spoke with Vision today about the unique connection he has with this verse.

I have a unique understanding of this verse, having worked in a vineyard for decades. I see what happens when a vine doesn’t stay attached to the branches and see how important pruning is. Pruning off the stuff that’s not bearing fruit.

That Still Small Voice

Tony goes on to share how he strives to lead a spirit-led life and to try and hear that small voice of God as He speaks to us – and to be obedient to that voice.

As I was reading the Word for Today and got to the bottom of the page and this little voice that I know was God said, “Give these guys some money. You read this all the time. Donate.”

I went, “Okay.”  It’s hard to hear that small voice in a busy world when there’s so much other stuff in your mind. I’m trying to get better at isolating that one so that I can do more of what God’s will is for me in my life.

We can’t do this without people like Tony, stepping out in this way. We’re standing on the shoulders of giants who’ve gone before us some 30 years ago, who stepped out with really nothing much in their hands. They just followed the call of God.

What Vision has become today, all over Australia through broadcast, print and digital media. Helping people to look to God and reminding them of what his Word says. We often just get so focused on every other thing that comes across our path.

… making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:16-17
